A RENEWED MUSIC MINISTRY

In our new church we have a tremendous musical space with far more usable seating, a state-of-the-art sound system and a live, reverberant room. Many people have commented that it “actually sounds like a church!” If you have ever even remotely considered joining one of the choirs, now is the perfect time. Be a part of a renewed and ever-growing music program here at St. Benedict’s. All groups are generally open to those of high school age and older.

Here is a recap of our different musical ministries open to new members: All of these groups are active from mid-September through May. Unless otherwise noted, please call our Music Director Greg Fincham at 724.941.9406 for more information or to express interest.

Adult Choir: Rehearses Thursday evenings at 7:30 in choir room of new church and sings every week at the 10:00 Mass.

Contemporary Choir: Rehearses Tuesday evenings at 7:00 in choir room of new church and sings every other Saturday, 5:00 pm Mass. (Contact Mike Locke, Director: 724-941-6385)

Handbell Choir: Rings at various Masses and rehearsals are scheduled as needed, usually on Tuesday evenings at 7:00.

Teen Band: Sings for Lifeteen Masses on Sunday evenings and rehearses one hour prior to Mass.

Children’s Choir and Youth Handbell Choir are scheduled for Christmas and Easter. Please look for details in the bulletin closer to these holidays.

Accomplished instrumentalists who are willing to donate their services are also encouraged to let us know of their availability. Please note that liturgical documents assert that musicians should possess a high degree of proficiency for Eucharistic celebrations.

Finally, we have several exceptionally trained vocalists who serve as Cantors. While there is not a current need in this department, please feel free to introduce yourself and let us know of your training and availability with regard to this ministry.
